Idea Napkin 2

1)    What was the general theme or argument of the book?
-The main theme/argument of the book is basically the title: How to fail at almost everything and still win big (Scott Adams). One of the main points brought up in the book is to always be doing something that makes you actually want to get out of bed early and start beginning your day.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
-ENT3003 has taught me many things. One of these things is to always be passionate about your projects and your goals and to never give up. One of the class’s key points is that many of the best Entrepreneurs have failed and given up but always succeed in the end and make it big in the world. This connects to the book in the sense that he also refers to never giving up and how to go big in the end.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
-The exercise would be to make goals and write things down that excite you or that you find joy in doing…things that make you want to hop right out of bed in the morning and get to doing. And then to actually go out in the world and do those things and turn them into jobs and businesses.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
-He says in the book “Look after yourself first. This involves eating right, exercising, avoiding unnecessary stress and getting enough sleep.” I always neglect to actually check up on myself and my health. I never wake up early or eat breakfast. This was my ‘aha’ moment because no one normally says that you need these things to start up a business.

Idea Napkin No. 2

My Name is Jacob Norton and I grew up in Gainesville, Fl. I am currently a second year marketing major at the University of Florida. My aspirations are to become a pharmaceutical salesman and on the side be a high school volleyball coach.

I think my idea of creating a more efficient volleyball net has a lot to do with my activities and hobbies. I’ve been playing volleyball since the 7th grade and now I currently play on the club team at UF. Having to continuously set up those obnoxious nets and take them down each time is a huge waste of time and can easily get confusing.

The customers I hope to sell to are people just like myself, people who are invested in volleyball and want to no longer waste time during practice or games to set up a net.

Having experience is a huge help, but also having ambition and knowledge of the sport would be appealing to customers.

I think these points help out in my case. Explaining what my product is, why I am doing it, what it will solve, and who it will appeal to are all qualities that match together. These help my business concept.

I received feedback to show that I have experience. I put in this napkin that I have experience playing AND getting annoyed with the volleyballs nets that people use now.
