13A - Reading Reflection No. 1
Coco Chanel, Lisa Chaney
1. You read about an entrepreneur:
- What surprised me the most about her was that she was also convicted of being a German Spy in World War II.
- What I admired the most about her was that she learned to iron, sew, and embroider in convent orphanage she lived in after her mother died.
- Chanel No. 5 comes from a fortune teller.
- She encountered failure during the war where she had to shut down her fashion business for 15 years. After the War ended she reopened her fashion business and it continued to bloom.
2. I noticed that Coco Chanel actually had a passion in her work. She also dared to change women’s appearances so that they could be more comfortable and care less about what others thought.
3. Her last words were “You see, this is how you die.”
4. I would ask them how it felt to start changing the idea of a woman and what they are expected to wear felt. I would also ask her how she decided to reopen her fashion business after it being closed for 15 years.
5. I think that Coco Chanel thought it was hard to be a woman starting a new business, especially a clothing business which is very rare. I’m sure she also thought it was hard to do all of this during World War II.
Jacob,
ReplyDeleteI never knew any of these details about the life of Lisa Chaney and the history of Coco Chanel. From reading your blog post, the most interesting piece of information that I read was the fact that she was convicted of being a German Spy during the second world war. What circumstances led to her conviction? How was she able to overcome that and create one of the most famous fashion lines in the world? Overall you had an interesting post this time around, however it could've used a bit more elaboration at times.
